Sub-shrub of the southernmost areas from 0,30 to 0,60 m of which one uses flowers and leaves.

Common sage is an excellent general tonic, recommended in case of gastric or circulatory disorders, sage is febrifuge, helps for diabetes, for cold and controls perspiration.
Also : Dysmenorrhoea, frigidity, impotence, emphysema, diarrhoea.
In external use : Stomatitis, mouth ulcers, angina sore-throat, leucorrhea, ulcers, alopecia, insect bite, distorsion, hair.


Decoction : One handful for one liter of water, boil 10 minutes, in mouthwash for gums or mouth ulcers, in gargle for throat ache, in compress on ulcers.

Infusion : A teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water, let infuse during 10 minutes; 3 cups per day.

Lotion with a concentrated decoction (100g of leaves for 1 liter of water) mixed with rum in equal proportions, in scalp massage against hair loss, dandruff.

Cream; crush 5 handfuls of fresh leaves, mixed with 500g shea butter, gently boil, filter, used in massage to relax the joints, against rheumatism, gout, sciatica, muscle pain , strengthen the nerves.

Dried leaves smoked as a tobacco relieve asthma.

A pinch of sage infused during 5 minutes in a cup of boiling milk can stop colds at the beginning.

Mulled wine with sage can replace cinnamon mulled wine.

Burning sage leaves over hot coals or boiled in a pot disinfect rooms.
